even though I wanted to make a concept album, I wanted to stay true to the running theme of nouns being a way of paying homage to our favorite musicians. This song is every bit inspired by the greatest band that ever existed: Cardiacs. I spent years trying to learn the ins and outs of the Cardiacs cadence and trying to write using their time signatures. I wanted to be like Tim, and hell, I may never be able to write like him. That’s a fantastic thing, though. There will never be another Cardiacs. This is for Tim, his family, his amazing bandmates. All I can say is thank you for changing my life at a young age and showing me how music could be. And thank you to Mary— you have kept the legacy going and all of us are grateful to you.
D.J and Dustin are no-bullshit my biggest influences. Ever since I was 12. Thank you guys so much for watching me grow up, and teaching me everything I know now. nouns
